Tourette syndrome, a neurological disorder, is characterized by repetitive, involuntary movements and vocalizations called tics. Some of these more common tics include eye blinking and other vision irregularities, sniffing, and grunting sounds. Although some studies suggest that this condition is inherited, scientists are unable to say which specific chromosomes and genes are involved. Most people with Tourette syndrome do not require medication, but drugs are available to help relieve symptoms.
