Drug Interactions With Tolcapone

Because certain drug interactions with tolcapone may cause complications, make sure your healthcare provider is aware of any other medications you are taking before starting treatment. Medications that can cause interact negatively with tolcapone include MAOIs, warfarin, and medications metabolized by a certain enzyme. If drug interactions with tolcapone are a concern, your healthcare provider may decide to monitor you more closely.

 

Drug Interactions With Tolcapone: An Overview

Tolcapone (Tasmar®) can potentially interact with several different medications. Some of the medicines that may lead to drug interactions with tolcapone include:
 
  • Medications metabolized by COMT (catechol-O-methyltransferase), such as:
 
    • Apomorphine (Apokyn®)
    • Dobutamine
    • Dopamine
    • Epinephrine (Adrenalin®, EpiPen®, Primatene® Mist)
    • Isoproterenol (Isuprel®)
    • Methyldopa
    • Norepinephrine (Levophed®)
 
  • Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs), such as:
 
 
  • Warfarin (Coumadin®, Jantoven®).
