Tiagabine (Cont.)

What If I Take an Overdose of Tiagabine?

People who take too much tiagabine may have overdose symptoms that could include:

  • Drowsiness
  • Decreased consciousness
  • Agitation
  • Confusion
  • Speech problems
  • Hostility
  • Depression
  • Weakness
  • Muscle twitching
  • Seizures.

If you happen to overdose on tiagabine, seek immediate medical attention.

How Should Tiagabine Be Stored?

Tiagabine should be stored at room temperature, away from moisture and heat. Store the tablets in an airtight container.

Keep tiagabine and all medications out of the reach of children.

What Should I Do If I Miss a Dose of Tiagabine?

If you do not take your tiagabine as scheduled, take your missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular schedule. Do not take a double dose. If you miss several doses, talk with your healthcare provider, as you may need to start back with a lower tiagabine dosage.

Alternatives to Tiagabine

There are several alternatives to tiagabine for controlling seizures. This can include other seizure medications (see Epilepsy Medication), surgery (see Epilepsy Surgery), or even -- in some cases -- a special diet (see Epilepsy Diet).

While tiagabine is often effective and many people tolerate it well, it does not work for everyone. It may also cause bothersome side effects. With so many different treatment options for epilepsy available, people should not settle for a treatment that is not effective enough for them or that causes troublesome side effects.
