- Depression or other emotional changes
- Worsening of seizures or seizures in people without epilepsy
- Agitation or hostility
- Confusion or memory problems
- Signs of an allergic reaction, including unexplained rash, hives, itching, and unexplained swelling

Rare side effects of tiagabine occur in less than 1 percent of people taking the drug. Because these side effects are so uncommon, it can be difficult to tell whether they are actually caused by tiagabine or by factors unrelated to the medication.
Some of these rare tiagabine side effects include but are not limited to:
- Stiff neck
- Gallstones or other gallbladder problems
- Increased salivation
- Underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism)
- Dehydration
- High cholesterol
- High blood sugar (hyperglycemia) or low blood sugar (hypoglycemia)
- Arthritis

- Leg cramps
- Asthma
- Hiccups
