Treatment for Tay-Sachs (Cont.)

Proper Hydration as a Treatment for Tay Sachs

Individuals with Tay-Sachs are at special risk for dehydration and, therefore, require adequate amounts of fluids, especially during hot weather. Bendable straws can make drinking easier. In some cases, water may have to be thickened with commercial additives to give it the consistency of syrup or honey.

Prognosis With Treatment for Tay-Sachs

Even with the best of care, children with Tay-Sachs disease usually die by age 4 from recurring infections.
