Sumatriptan succinate (Imitrex®) is a prescription medication that has been approved to relieve symptoms of migraine headaches. The medication comes in tablets, a nasal spray, and an injection. You should take sumatriptan as soon as possible once a migraine starts. Sumatriptan is intended to be taken only during a migraine headache, not on a regular basis. Seek medical attention immediately if you overdose on sumatriptan. Symptoms of a sumatriptan overdose could include seizures, shakiness, and swelling in the arms or legs, among other things.
