Spina bifida research is also being conducted in order to understand how the brain and nervous system develop. The goals of these studies are to:
 
  • Contribute to a greater understanding of neural tube defects, such as spina bifida
  • Find new treatment for these disorders and other birth defects
  • Find new ways to prevent these disorders and other birth defects.
