Seizures occur when there are abnormal electrical discharges in the brain. These episodes can be caused by epilepsy, an infection in the brain, a tumor, or certain other medical conditions. Possible symptoms of seizures include involuntary movement of arms and legs, loss of consciousness, and fainting spells (with incontinence or followed by excessive fatigue). A person is usually diagnosed with epilepsy if he or she has had two or more seizures.
