RLS Detection (Cont.)

RLS Detection: Physical Exam
A complete physical and neurological exam may help identify other conditions that may be linked with restless legs syndrome, such as nerve damage (neuropathy or a pinched nerve) or abnormalities in the blood vessels.

(Click Restless Legs Syndrome Causes for more information.)

Your doctor will also pay special attention to the nerves in your spinal cord, legs, and arms and the blood flow in your legs and arms.

RLS Detection: Other Tests
While there is currently no test available for RLS detection, blood tests can be used to look for underlying conditions that can cause RLS. These tests check for:

  • Low iron stores or iron deficiency anemia
  • Diabetes
  • Kidney disease
  • Other vitamin and mineral deficiencies.
