Drug Interactions With Rizatriptan

Propranolol, ergot medications, and certain antidepressants are some of the drugs that can potentially interact with rizatriptan. Drug interactions with rizatriptan can, among other things, increase the level of rizatriptan in your blood or cause a dangerous group of symptoms known as serotonin syndrome. Make sure to talk with your pharmacist or healthcare provider about any rizatriptan drug interactions that may apply to you.

 

An Overview of Drug Interactions With Rizatriptan

Rizatriptan benzoate (Maxalt®) can potentially interact with a number of other medicines. Some of the medicines that may lead to rizatriptan interactions include:
 

 

 

  • Ergot medications, such as:

 

    • Bromocriptine (Parlodel®)
    • Dihydroergotamine (Migranal®)
    • Ergotamine (Bellamine S®, Cafergot®, Ergomar®)
    • Pergolide (Permax®)

 

  • Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs), including:
