Who Should Not Take Rasagiline?

You should not take rasagiline if you:
 
  • Are allergic to rasagiline mesylate, Azilect, or any inactive components used to make the medication. Your healthcare provider or pharmacist has a list of the inactive ingredients.
     
  • Are undergoing elective surgery. You should stop rasagiline for at least 14 days before undergoing any surgery that involves general or local anesthetic.
     
  • Have pheochromocytoma, a specific kind of adrenal tumor.
     
  • Are taking any of the drugs or foods that should not be combined with rasagiline (see Drug Interactions With Rasagiline and Azilect Food Interactions).

There are a number of situations in which rasagiline should not be taken, as well as several precautions and warnings people should be aware of before starting the medication.
