Orap Drug Interactions

Orap Drug Interactions Explained

The following sections explain in detail the potentially negative interactions that can occur when Orap is combined with any of the drugs listed above.

Amphetamine Medications
Because amphetamine medications can cause physical movements that resemble tics, Orap should not be used in combination with these products.

Certain SSRI Medications
Taking Orap in combination with selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) medications might increase your risk of serious side effects, including a life-threatening heart rhythm problem. Orap should not be used in combination with the SSRIs listed above.

CYP 1A2 Inhibitor Medications
The liver breaks down Orap using enzymes known as CYP 1A2 enzymes, and medications known as CYP 1A2 inhibitors can decrease the activity of these enzymes. Thus, combining Orap with one of these drugs may increase the level of Orap in your bloodstream, increasing your risk for side effects. Your healthcare provider may need to closely monitor you if you take these medicines together.

CYP 2D6 Inhibitor Medications
The liver breaks down Orap using enzymes known as CYP 2D6 enzymes, and medications known as CYP 2D6 inhibitors can decrease the activity of these enzymes. Thus, combining Orap with one of these drugs may increase the level of Orap in your bloodstream, increasing your risk for dangerous side effects. In general, Orap should not be used with these medications.

CYP 3A4 Inducer Medications
The liver breaks down Orap using enzymes known as CYP 3A4 enzymes, and medications known as CYP 3A4 inducers can increase the activity of these enzymes. Thus, combining Orap with one of these drugs may decrease the level of Orap in your bloodstream, potentially making it less effective. Your healthcare provider may need to closely monitor you and adjust your Orap dosage if you start or stop taking a CYP 3A4 inducer.
