Lamotrigine XR Drug Information
Extended-release lamotrigine (Lamictal® XR™) is a drug used to treat partial-onset seizures (also called partial seizures or focal seizures) in people age 13 and older. This product comes in the form of a tablet that needs to be taken just once a day. It comes in four strengths and is not available in generic form at this time. When recommending a dosage, your healthcare provider will consider information such as:
- How you respond to the medication
- Other medical conditions you may have
- Other medicines you may be taking.
To help ensure a safe treatment process, your healthcare provider will probably start you at a low dose and gradually increase the amount. Most people tolerate the drug well; if side effects do occur, they tend to be minor and easy to treat. Common side effects include fatigue, diarrhea, nausea, and dizziness.
