Dantrolene Drug Information

The medication dantrolene sodium (Dantrium®) is prescribed for the treatment of muscle spasticity associated with multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injuries, or certain other neurological conditions. It is also approved for treating or preventing a dangerous reaction to anesthesia called malignant hyperthermia.
 
Dantrolene is a type of muscle relaxant that works directly on the muscles. It comes as a capsule that is taken three to four times daily or as an injection that is given slowly into a vein (intravenous, or IV, infusion).
 
Information your healthcare provider needs when prescribing dantrolene includes a list of all other medicines you are taking, including nonprescription drugs and supplements, and any other medical conditions you have, such as liver disease.
