What Is Sumatriptan Used For?Sumatriptan succinate (Alsuma™, Imitrex®, Sumavel®, Zecuity™) is a prescription medication used to treat migraine headaches. The injectable form of sumatriptan is also approved for the acute treatment of cluster headache (see Cluster Headache Treatment).
Using Sumatriptan for MigrainesMigraine headaches are different from other headaches in many ways. Some of the most common migraine symptoms include:
- Headache pain on one side of the head
- Sensitivity to light or sound
- Throbbing headache pain
- Upset stomach (nausea) and vomiting
