The dose of
levetiracetam (
Keppra®) that your healthcare provider recommends will vary, depending on a number of factors, including:
- The type of seizures you have
- Other medications you may be taking
- Other medical conditions you may have
- Your age and weight.
As is always the case, do not adjust your levetiracetam dose unless your healthcare provider specifically instructs you to do so. The following levetiracetam dosages are for people with healthy kidneys. If you have kidney disease (including kidney failure), you may need a lower levetiracetam dosage.
Levetiracetam Dosing for Myoclonic Seizures
The recommended starting levetiracetam dose for treating myoclonic
seizures in adults and adolescents age 12 and older is levetiracetam 500 mg twice daily. Typically, your healthcare provider will slowly increase your levetiracetam dose until your seizures are controlled or you develop bothersome levetiracetam side effects. The maximum levetiracetam dose is levetiracetam 3000 mg total per day.
