Lacosamide (Vimpat®) can potentially interact with a few other medications. Some of these medicines that may lead to drug interactions with lacosamide include:
- Carbamazepine (Carbatrol®, Epitol®, Equetro®, Tegretol®)
- Phenobarbital (Luminal®)
- Phenytoin (Dilantin®, Phenytek®).
The following sections explain in detail the potentially negative interactions that can occur due to lacosamide drug interactions.
Carbamazepine
Some studies suggest that carbamazepine may slightly decrease the level of lacosamide in the blood, although this is not expected to cause significant problems.
Phenobarbital
Some studies suggest that phenobarbital may slightly decrease the level of lacosamide in the blood, although this is not expected to cause significant problems.
Phenytoin
Some studies suggest that phenytoin may slightly decrease the level of lacosamide in the blood, although this is not expected to cause significant problems.
It is possible that not all drug interactions with lacosamide were discussed in this article. Therefore, you should talk with your pharmacist or healthcare provider about any specific lacosamide drug interactions that may apply to you.
