Hallucinations, fever, and difficulty passing urine are some of the potentially serious side effects of biperiden that should be reported immediately to your healthcare provider. However, side effects of this medication are usually minor and are generally easy to treat. Some of the more common biperiden side effects include nausea, constipation, and blurred vision (often due to dry eyes).
An Introduction to Side Effects of BiperidenJust like any medicine, biperiden hydrochloride (Akineton®) may cause side effects. However, if side effects do occur, they are often minor and either require no treatment or are easily treated by you or your healthcare provider.

Serious Biperiden Side EffectsSome side effects with biperiden are potentially serious and should be reported immediately to your healthcare provider. Although most of these serious side effects are rare, a few may be common, especially when a high biperiden dosage is used. These serious side effects of biperiden include but are not limited to:
- Difficulty passing urine
- Fever, heatstroke, or decreased sweating
- Severe constipation (which may be a sign of an intestinal blockage)
- A rapid heart rate (tachycardia)
- Glaucoma (an eye condition)
- Signs of an allergic reaction, including:
- An unexplained rash
- Swelling of the mouth or throat
- Difficulty breathing.
