Fingolimod

Available by prescription only, fingolimod is approved for treating multiple sclerosis. This medication works by decreasing the number of lymphocytes (a type of white blood cell) in the bloodstream. Unlike many other multiple sclerosis medications (which come in the form of injections), this product comes in capsule form and is taken once daily. Possible side effects include diarrhea, back pain, and coughing.

What Is Fingolimod?

Fingolimod (Gilenya™) is a prescription medication approved to treat multiple sclerosis (MS). Unlike most MS medications that are taken by injection, fingolimod is taken by mouth.

Are There Side Effects?

Just like any medicine, fingolimod can cause side effects. However, not everyone who uses the drug will experience problems. Most people tolerate it quite well.

Common side effects of fingolimod include but are not limited to:

Headaches
Increased liver enzymes (found using a blood test)
Back pain
Coughing
Diarrhea
The flu.

If reactions do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or are treated easily by you or your healthcare provider. Serious side effects are less common.
