What Is Felbamate Used For?

How Does Felbamate Work?

It is not known exactly how felbamate works to prevent seizures. It is thought to work in a similar way as other common seizure medications.
 

Can Children Use It?

Felbamate is approved to treat seizures associated with Lennox-Gastaut syndrome in children who are 2 to 14 years old. It is also approved to treat partial seizures in children 14 years and older. However, the medication has only been adequately studied in children with Lennox-Gastaut syndrome. Talk to your healthcare provider about the risks and benefits of using felbamate in children.
 

Is Felbamate Used for Off-Label Reasons?

On occasion, your healthcare provider may recommend this product for something other than the conditions discussed in this article. This is called an "off-label" use. At this time, there are no universally accepted off-label felbamate uses.
