Drug Interactions With Ethotoin
Calcium, allopurinol, and certain antacids are among the products that can cause problems when used in combination with ethotoin. Drug interactions such as these may change how your body absorbs ethotoin or may increase your risk for side effects. Before beginning treatment with it, make sure your healthcare provider is aware of any medicines, vitamins, or supplements you are taking.

Ethotoin (Peganone®) can potentially react with a few other medications. Some of the products that may lead to drug interactions with ethotoin include but are not limited to:
- Allopurinol (Aloprim®, Zyloprim®)
- Calcium
- Carbonic anhydrase inhibitors, such as:
- Acetazolamide (Diamox®)
- Dichlorphenamide (Daranide®)
- Methazolamide
- Topiramate (Topamax®)
- Zonisamide (Zonegran®)
The following sections explain in detail the potentially negative interactions that can occur when ethotoin is combined with any of the drugs listed above.
Allopurinol
Allopurinol may increase the level of ethotoin in the bloodstream, perhaps increasing the risk of ethotoin side effects. Check with your healthcare provider before taking these medications together, or before stopping one of these medications if you are taking them together.
