Spasticity and Dantrolene

Adults and children who have muscle spasticity (spasms and stiffness) caused by certain medical conditions may benefit from treatment with dantrolene sodium (Dantrium®). This prescription muscle relaxant is specifically approved to treat muscle spasticity caused by neurological conditions like spinal cord injuries, multiple sclerosis, or cerebral palsy.

Dantrolene is also approved to prevent or treat a rare and potentially life-threatening condition called malignant hyperthermia. This condition is a dangerous reaction that occurs in response to general anesthesia and results in a high fever and muscle rigidity.
