Brand Name for Dantrolene

Available by prescription only, dantrolene sodium (Dantrium®) is a medication used to help control muscle stiffness and spasms associated with a variety of conditions. It is also used to prevent or treat a rare condition known as malignant hyperthermia, which is a potentially life-threatening reaction to certain anesthetics used during surgery.
Dantrolene is available in brand-name form, sold under the name Dantrium. This product is made by JHP Pharmaceuticals, LLC. There are also generic versions of dantrolene available.
This medication comes as capsules or an injection that is given slowly into a vein. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has determined that the generic versions of dantrolene are as good as the brand-name Dantrium. However, the generics may contain different inactive ingredients than the brand-name product.
